The Port Moresby Stock Exchange Limited (POMSoX) has a new and reconstructed website. Following the hacking of its site in October 2015, the company undertook the reconstruction of its site and it went live on 20th May 2016. The new site has a much more modern feel to it and has the necessary information for investors.
The new website allows visitors to view latest company announcements, share prices and a whole range of information regarding our listed companies, listing information, investor seminar program details and other investor education literature.
Listed companies have been given the responsibility to upload their announcements as soon as the Exchange gives the approval. This allows for announcements to be released to the market in a timely manner.
Visitors to the site can view historical share prices over the last six months. “We are still in the process of uploading historical share prices from prior years. We normally get queries from investors and companies wanting to view historical share prices and it will make it easy for these people to get the prices directly from the site instead of calling us for this information,” said the Acting General Manager, Mr. Vincent Ivosa.
“The website has links to all listed companies and I encourage everyone in the market to visit the site at www.pomsox.com.pg to get more information and learn how to invest in the stock market. We will continue to provide new information and make the site very intuitive and user friendly,” said Mr. Ivosa.
On the investor education program, we have commenced advertisement for upcoming first-time investor seminars in Kiunga on the 1st September, followed by Kavieng on the 6th September, then to Kokopo on the 7th September and Kimbe on the 13th September 2016 for this leg of the program.
We have received plenty of interest from people within these towns and we also have other interested people asking to hold seminars in POM and Lae. These places will be visited later in the year, hopefully in November 2016. Interested investors and individuals who want to attend these seminars will learn about:
How to understand and read share prices;
Role and functions of the stock exchange;
Role and functions of the stockbroker;
Steps in buying and selling shares;
Investment options and strategies;
Steps to becoming an investor;
Operations of the share market;
What the benefits and risk levels are; and many more details.
The seminars are open to interested members of the public who want to know and learn new information about the stock market and investment. We charge a fee of K150.00 to cover our cost. This is not a money-making scheme for POMSoX; it is more an educational and awareness program to equip our people with the basic and necessary information before they can get started. Information is very important in the marketplace and we feel obligated to roll out this program for the benefit of our Papua New Guinean people,” said Mr. Ivosa.
